¡¡There is an old woman who lives by herself.
Her house is is near my
house.
¡¡One day in January, it snowed a lot. The
next morning, I was told by
my father to go to the old woman's house
to clear away the snow in
front of her house. I did not really want
to do so, but I left my
house after breakfast. When I arrived at her
house, the snow was already
cleared away. ( A )
¡¡I went into the house and I asked her who
cleared away the snow. She
said,¡ÈA high school student did it for me.
Her name is Midori. This
winter, she often came to my house when it
snowed a lot. At first, I
did know who did it, but later I had a chance
to talk with her and
asked her name.¡É
¡¡At the beginnning of February, we had alot
of snow again. (B)
(This time, I went to the old woman's house
before my father told me.)
Then I met the student. I started working
with her and asked,¡ÈWere
you told to do this by anyone ?¡É She said,¡ÈNo.
I am a member of a
volunteer group in this city. Our group has
done many things to help
other people in the community.¡É I said,¡ÈYou
don't get any money for
doing this, do you ?¡É Then she said,¡ÈNo.
I'm not doing this for
money. (C) (I really enjoy doing things like
this. In a sense, I am
doing volunteer work for myself, not only
for other people.) There are
many things which I have learned from volunteer
work. I also feel
happy to see other people's happy faces.
So I have to say that I
should thank them.¡É
¡¡(D)(I was very surprised to know that there
are wonderful students
like her.) We can find many things we can
do around us in our
community. Let's begin to do somethings and
enjoy it. It is time for
us to start.
¡¡Thank you.
